There is an issue some users are facing in which the key encoder for the DormaKaba Community software is not connecting and showing as offline.  You may also encounter a pop up window after logging in that asks if you would like to update the Community Client software.  If this happens, please do the following:

  1. Do not click to install the update when prompted.  Please click the Cancel button to decline.
  2. Make sure your encoder is still plugged directly into your computer and has a light.
  3. Perform a search on your Windows machine for "Services".  You can also navigate there by going to Control Panel > System and Security > Administrative Tools > Services.
  4. Right-click on this to "Run as Administrator".
  5. A list of all available services on your computer will open up in alphabetical order.  Scroll down look for CommunityClient and check if it is running.  Right-click on it to start it if not, or restart it if it is already running.  Sometimes that alone is enough to resolve the issue.
  6. In addition, you can restart the SQL Server (COMMUNITY) service.  You may see a message warning that other services depending on this one will also have to restart.  This is normal, so go ahead and proceed.  This may in include the Community Server service, Community WS PMS service, and the Community Encoder service.  If they do not restart automatically with the SQL Server (Community) service, you may restart them manually as well.
  7. After a minute to let these actions complete, reopen the DormaKaba Community software and see if there is any improvement now by attempting to read a key.
  8. If you are still unable to use your encoder, please call Advant Solutions at 281-444-4014 and ask for tech support for assistance, or DormaKaba at 800-999-6213, option 1, option 1.
